EVERY 15 MINUTES
~ Words and Music by Ran Birkins
She was supposed to be
making happy memories;
her steady boyfriend was taking her to the prom.
A fabulous new dress,
makeup and hair and nails perfect;
he wore a rented tux and brought her a corsage.
And her family’s video cam’ra captured the couple’s happiness;
when they drove away her daddy waved and momma blew a kiss.
Every 15 minutes, another tragic accident,
another DUI, speeding broadside,
more innocent victims.
Local law enforcement
notifying next of kin;
the misery of grief somewhere begins,
every 15 minutes.
He loved his family,
and worked two jobs to make ends meet,
‘til a drunken driver crossed that yellow line.
Next in a neigh’bring state,
a brand-new grandma met her fate;
rear-ended while she was waiting at a red light.
Another life has been harvested by the grim reaper’s drunken rage,
he’s dealing death on streets and highways, with liquor on his blade!
(repeat chorus)
Another weeping family, mourning at a funeral,
More flowers, candles, white crosses, roadside memorials.
Every 15 minutes, 24 / 7 / 365…
(repeat chorus)
